What metals were used in ancient, river valley and classical civilizations?

February 14, 2010 - 6:27 am 2 Comments

Like Paleolithic, Neolithic, Egypt, Mesopitamia, Indus River Civilizations, Maurya and Gupta in India and the Shang, Zhou, Qin and Han dynasties in China?

Ancient people (neolithic) first started working gold and copper, the two softest metals. By 3000 bc, people in Egypt, Mesopotamia and the caucus had started to add tin to copper making bronze.

How can a river run north and south at the same time?

February 9, 2010 - 1:37 pm 2 Comments

If you have a river that runs north and south and another river branches off of it to the west then turns south,at the point where the two (3) rivers meet how can the water run north on the north of the other branching river and then south on the south side at the same time?

How can A river ( the same river) can run north & south at the same time?
That means the river is not running anywhere (neither north nor south) and it is a stagnant pool.
First principle of flowing water is it ‘runs down’, from a higher level to one that is lower. If some water runs from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ that is south of ‘A’, because A is higher than B (B is lower than A), how can some other water climb from ‘B’ to ‘A’ in an attempt to flow north.
This is all I understood from your stated (I don’t know about your ‘unstated’ meaning) version.

What river should I do an overnight canoe trip in Colorado?

January 31, 2010 - 2:53 am 1 Comment

I’m looking for a river that has good fishing, great scenery, and no more than class III rapids. We are looking to go in late May. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

The Arkansas, Blue, and Colorado all have more than Class III. I’d suggest the Gunnison below the black canyon.

How does the sunday river Chondola work?

January 24, 2010 - 1:53 pm 2 Comments

I’m headed up to Sunday River in three weeks and I haven’t been there in 4 years. I recently heard they added something called a Chondola, which from what I’ve heard is a combination of a chair lift and a gondola. I was wondering though, how does it work do you get the gondola by chance? Or is there a separate line for the chair lift and a separate line for the gondola?

hey i snowboard at sunday river….yes the chondola has 2 seperate lines– 1 for the 6 person chair and 1 for the gondola cars— but then it only takes you about half way up the mountain and then you need to switch over to a different lift to go even higher–i never understood why they didint make the chondola go all the way up

did the missisippi river start out as a water fall as did the niagra falls is creating the niagra river?

January 20, 2010 - 6:43 am 2 Comments

6 million years from now the niagra river will empty into the ATLANTIC!
the niagra falls is eroding up river at the rate of 2 feet a year! thus creating a longer niagra river each year!

Niagara Falls didn’t create the Niagara River. The Niagara River was created by water flowing down hill from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. The falls themselves occurred because the Niagara River had to flow over the edge of the Niagara Escarpment, a long ridge of land stretching from upper New York State through Canada and up past Tobermorie Ontario. The drop over the escarpment is a couple of hundred feet and that is what caused Niagara Falls. The Falls originally formed approx 7 miles downstream of where they are today and they have eroded over the thousands of years to where they are now. And they will continue to erode, slowly over the years to come however they will not erode back to the Atlantic Ocean. Eventually, if they erode that far, they will meet up with Lake Ontario and the Niagara River will just be a long set of rapids.

What is the relative velocity of a man in a boat with respect to the river and the earth?

January 16, 2010 - 11:32 pm 1 Comment

A river flows due south with a speed of 2.00m/s . A man steers a motorboat across the river; his velocity relative to the water is 4.20m/s due east. The river is 800m wide.
What is the magnitude of his velocity relative to the earth? What is the direction of his velocity relative to the earth? How much time is required for the man to cross the river?

ok.

1)His velocity relative to the earth is:
V= squ(2^2 + 4.2^2 ) =4.65 m/s

2)Then the direction of his velocity relative to the earth:
sin θ = 4.2 / 4.65 So θ= 64.5 º (south-east)

3) Tine requiered for the man:
t = (800m) / (4.2m/s)= 190.4s =3.17min

Thats all. i hope it`s helped you

What river goes through england, london, and empties to the north sea?

January 13, 2010 - 6:26 am 5 Comments

Also,
What body of water is between North England and france?
What river is in france, the city of paris?
What body of water is between atlantic and great britain and european continent?
What river originates in the alps in switzerland and flows north sean in the netherlands?

The river through London that empties to the North Sea is the Thames.

If you look at a map, then a wild guess as to which body of water could be seen as lying between the NORTH of England and France would be the North Sea. The sea between Eastern England and France is the English Channel (its narrowest part being the Strait of Dover).

The river in Paris is named Seine.

Between the Atlantic Ocean and GB, there’s an island called Ireland. The Irish Sea as well as the North Channel and St. George’s Channel (to the South) are the bodies of water dividing Ireland from Great Britain. There are two bodies of water between GB and continental Europe: the North Sea and the English Channel.

And the river that originates in Switzerland and flows into the North Sea is called Rhine.

If your questions relate to homework, I suggest you check out a map of Europe and look things up -that way you’ll know where these rivers/oceans are!

How to get to north korea through the river passage from china or south korea?

December 15, 2009 - 12:19 pm 2 Comments

Anybody knows how to get there and where is it? I fund lots of informations about it on websites but nobody realy mention where it realy is and how to find it? They only say a lot about the illegal immigrants crossing the river to china or sounth korea but i am still not able to locate the place. Anybody can suport me with some informations?

I have read about North Koreans crossing the border with China. There is a river between these two countries and China keeps soldiers on the north side with Korea keeping soldiers on the south side. This area gets pretty remote in places and has to be patrolled because there is no roads or towns close to some areas. My fiances mother lives just north of the Korean border and it is a mountainous area that gets very cold in the winter. You would be able to walk across the river in about any place during the winter.

How long is the distance from memphis to new orleans along the mississippi river?

November 30, 2009 - 10:47 pm 1 Comment

Some friends and I are planning on building a raft and traveling down the mississippi river from memphis to new orleans this summer and I was wondering how long this would be in both miles and time

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Memphis&1s=tn&2c=New+Orleans&2s=la

This follows the river pretty closely, but I dont know about rafting time.

This is an interesting site. Theyve done it and have a Contact Us page. It might be good to do that.

Have fun !

Search Mississippi River Rafting. Lots of good sites with valuable information. I was checking to see if there were dams/locks..but they seem to be in the Upper Mississippi.
